Each year, the TASH Conference brings together a diverse community of stakeholders who gain information, learn about resources, and connect with others across the country to strengthen the disability field. This year’s conference theme, “Be Creative - Innovative Solutions for an Inclusive Life,” reminds us to think outside the box during times of uncertainty. Creativity, innovation, and determination can pave the way for meaningful and inclusive lives for people with disabilities.
Identifying the implementation of research-based, career development practices in schools is essential for promoting successful post-school employment outcomes. This survey study examined secondary transition consultants and coordinators (N = 161) perceptions on the extent to which these practices are implemented in Pennsylvania schools. Participants also rated the feasibility of implementing career development practices and barriers to implementation. Overall, participants reported that the practices were implemented inconsistently, however, the majority of participants viewed career development practices as feasible to implement. Furthermore, participants indicated the most problematic barriers to implementation were related to a lack of resources or infrastructure in schools. Few differences were found between the perceptions of state/regional transition consultants and school district transition coordinators. Implications for this study include providing schools with foundational information for implementing career development practices while also building a school-wide infrastructure of support. The results of this survey will drive educators to embrace new ways to envision transition services that will positively impact all students.
