2018 TASH Conference has ended
Each year, the TASH Conference brings together a diverse community of stakeholders who gain information, learn about resources, and connect with others across the country to strengthen the disability field. This year’s conference theme, “Be Creative - Innovative Solutions for an Inclusive Life,” reminds us to think outside the box during times of uncertainty. Creativity, innovation, and determination can pave the way for meaningful and inclusive lives for people with disabilities.

The entry level job market is in decline in the USA. The Retail industry is declining fast due to online shopping, millennials preferring smaller living spaces, and yet that industry is where most of the transition job program focus has been historically. The cost of living is skyrocketing. The medicaid asset caps are way below one months rent in most cities. Plus, many jobs today require a college education. As a result, the transition model of most school districts and job programs for people with disabilities need to change to meet the needs of the 21st century. In this session, I will be covering ways that transition programs, job programs, and so students and parents of transition age can adapt to the new times, new job market, and what a new model should look like to insure a culture of high expectations, happiness, and an end to poverty in adulthood for people with disabilities in the 21st century.
